In 2009, Andrea “Andy” Tankin began an ordeal with Adult Lymphoblastic Leukemia and Myelodysplastic Syndrome. To honor her memory, her husband, Harry, and their son, Noah, established the Andrea N. Tankin Patient Fund at Fox Chase Cancer Center. Andy firmly believed “to whom much has been given, much will be expected” and her family has acted on this belief by providing financial assistance to patients and families receiving care in the Fox Chase Cancer Center Temple University Hospital Bone Marrow Transplant Program who are facing financial distress. Funds will be used for transportation, temporary housing, household emergencies, and much more. Recognizing the instrumental role social workers play in patient care, decisions on distributions from the fund will be made and managed by the Fox Chase Temple Bone Marrow Transplant Program’s Social Work Department, who will assess and qualify need while monitoring patient use.
